Net Worth formula
\[ \text{Total assets} - \text{Total liabilities} \]
It must equal equity. When it does not, some accounts are missing from the assets, liabilities or equity mapping, which makes it a useful check on any report.
Terms
- Total assets, closing balance: Everything the company owns or controls: non-current plus current assets.
- Total liabilities, closing balance: Everything the company owes to others: current plus non-current liabilities.
Result
Net Worth is an amount in currency. Higher is better.
Target
There is no general target; compare with the company’s own history and with peers in the same industry.
